The machine churned faster, but it was harder for man to reach the center of the machine and he grew disenchanted. He started to question the machine. " Where is the gold?" "How much do we have left?" "Where has the gold gone?"
The resin gold could not hold the fabric of the palace and in small areas constructs began to fall. Some people carried on accumulating symbols, while some started to store their symbols afraid that they would not have enough to reach the center.
Some tried to live on the borders of the passages, too afraid to walk to the outside. They could not relinquish their symbols and the passages became treacherous. Many men just stood at the edge not sure which way to go.
Man argued with man about the passages, whether they existed or not and where the true path to the outside was. They argued if man could live outside the palace. The orchestrator's of the machine said it was impossible. Assemblies said there was only one true passage.
Many carried on as normal as he could not believe what he was seeing. The machine was breaking and the palace tried to fix it. The palace advertised that people were gaining more gold resin and accumulating more symbols again.
Finally orchestrator's said "Pull back we need to keep the gold so we can keep the machine turning." They took homes, and food and light from man and gave it back to the machine, such was their desire to not change. Such was there blindness to the need of the machine. © 2010
